Nicole from Princess.ch makes you want to spend the winter at Lake Cauma! What a photogenic winter experience!

Lake Cauma in winter

Winterexperience Caumasee

It is one of the most well-known lakes in Switzerland: Lake Cauma in Flims, Graubünden. Often masses of people make their way to this beautiful lake during the warmer seasons. If you want to avoid them, I recommend a trip in winter. Of course, it is important to check the webcams beforehand, as the lake can be completely frozen in winter. But there is one thing we want to see above all: the unique play of colours of Lake Cauma in contrast to the surrounding winter wonderland. And the main advantage is that you will encounter fewer tourists in winter, as the comfortable lift down to the lake is closed. Winterproof clothing and shoes are a must.

Helga of Travelstory.ch recommends a short timeout at the Loetschen Pass.

The overnight stay in the SPA bungalow on the snow-covered Loetschen Pass was one of my personal highlights as a blogger in 2018.

Would you like to feel the Swiss winterwith all your senses, the arctic cold and the snow? At the top of the Loetschen Pass, you can admire the Valais and Bernese Alps and spend the night in the midst of this idyll without having to forgo the comfort of a hotel room. The warmth in the Pop-Up Bungalow is heated by a wood-burning stove. It is even possible to have a sauna in the snow-covered bungalow. After the sauna there is a basket with all ingredients for a private raclette evening in front of the door.

On the Loetschen Pass I felt a bit like I was in Antarctica, with an intense feeling of isolation and silence in the middle of the snow-covered mountains. The SPA bungalow will be rebuilt in 2019. A beautiful escape for couples in the midst of the Swiss winter.

You can find many photoes and a  detailed experience report (only in German) about the SPA here: SPA-Bungalow: Schlafen unter 1000 Sternen

Inge and Heinz from travelexperience.ch walk in the traces of Thomas Mann in Davos. Also Inge and Heinz focus on a winter experience in the sign of indulgence and relaxation.

Following Thomas Mann’s footprints in the snow in Davos

Thomas Mann and his Zauberberg have left a long-lasting impression – on us, but above all in the Waldhotel. Because this hotel high above Davos is open only in winter, the journey along Mann’s footprints can only be a winterly one. We enjoyed the walks in the snow as much as the warm-up in front of the fireplace or in the brine bath. And you certainly wouldn’t miss out on culinary delights, because in winter Chef Jeroen Achtien (15 Gault-Millau points) transferred his gourmet cuisine from the Vitznauerhof, which is only open in summer, to the Waldhotel in Davos. Davos is of course also a fantastic ski destination, but the ski slopes were not the main focus of our stay.

The two globetrotters Reni and Marcel from Swissnomads.ch are enthusiastic about winter hiking in Arosa. Reni and Marcel are actively searching for the most beautiful winter experience.

Winter hiking in Arosa – Beautiful Swiss mountains

Wintererlebnis Wandern Arosa
Greeting from the Siwss Nomads from Arosa

In the past ten years we have fled to the warmth for seven winters. We prefer the summer temperatures much more than the cold. But when there is plenty of snow, we also love winter – especially in the Swiss mountains. In Arosa we experienced a wonderful winter weekend. Thickly wrapped in our winter clothes, we walk through the snow and discover a very tiny part of the 60 kilometres of prepared winter hiking trails. The panorama with the snow-covered mountains is simply fantastic.

Next time we take our skis with us to Arosa, where we can take the aerial cableway that connects the Hoernligrat with the Urdenfuerggli where one has access to many ski slopes. When is the next time you go skiing? Here you can read the detailed report and walk with us.

Katja and Walter from Reisememo.ch recommend an overnight stay in an igloo as a special winter experience – mountain romance and a real winter feeling.

Overnight stay in an igloo at Zermatt

Igloo Village Zermatt
Winter Experience: Overnight Stay in Igloo

An overnight stay in the igloo village at Zermatt is an extraordinary experience and, in addition to a romantic mountain experience, gives you a unique winter feeling. The igloo village is located at 2727 metres above sea level between Riffelberg and Gornergrat and is framed by the most magnificent panorama of the Alps – with a magnificent view of the majestic Matterhorn!

In January it can get cold at night up to -20° Centigrade / -4° Fahrenheit. But in the winterproof expedition sleeping bags on warming lambskins you will certainly spend an unforgettable night.

One of my most beautiful winter experiences is the night in a Mongolian yurt at the Alp Flix.

The Alp Flix in Grisons in itself is a very special place. Located on a high plateau in Parc Ela, Switzerland’s largest nature park, you are surrounded by an enchanting winter scenery that is indeed reminiscent of Mongolia. In harmony with the surroundings, you can spend the night here very close to the stars in Mongolian yurts. A heavenly experience – also for families!
